SIKH FUNERALS in London & Kent

At W. Uden & Sons, we are committed to providing professional and compassionate funeral services for people of all faiths. We have been providing services for the Sikh community for many years. We ensure that all traditional practices, and religious customs are respectfully upheld for the Antam Sanskaar (Sikh funeral). We are able to offer facilities for family members to wash and prepare loved ones once they are in our care, if the family wishes to do so. Our chapel of rest is available for you to spend time with your loved one. We can also provide a sound system on request to play paath, shabad or music of your choice.

On the day of the funeral, we will accompany your loved one to the ceremony at a location of your choice —whether at home, the Gurdwara, another venue, the crematorium, or a combination of the above. As a mark of respect, our team cover their heads throughout the antam sanskar, wearing head bandanas and ties in the colour of your choice as part of their uniform; we are most commonly asked for our staff to wear black, white, or orange.

We offer an exclusive fleet of Bentley and Jaguar vehicles for your service. If required, we can arrange for a Punjabi-speaking translator to assist with the funeral arrangements.*

HINDU FUNERALS IN KENT AND LONDON

At W. Uden & Sons, we are proud to serve families of all faiths with dignity and care. We have many years of experience supporting the Hindu community and are fully committed to ensuring that all sacred traditions and cultural customs are respectfully observed during the Antyesti (Hindu funeral rites).

If the family wishes, we can provide facilities for loved ones to be washed and dressed in accordance with religious practices. Our chapel of rest is available should you wish to spend time in reflection and prayer.

On the day of the funeral, we will accompany your loved one to the chosen location – whether that is at home, a temple, the crematorium, or a combination of venues. We understand the importance of sacred rituals such as the placement of offerings, chanting of mantras, and the presence of fire during the final rites, and our team will support these with the utmost respect.

If required, we can also provide a sound system for the recitation of prayers or bhajans. Our staff can wear appropriate attire in line with the family’s request, and we offer an exclusive fleet of Jaguar and Bentley vehicles for your service. A Hindi, Gujarati or Tamil-speaking translator can be arranged to assist with funeral arrangements if needed.*

Catholic Funerals

At W. Uden & Sons, we are honoured to support families from all Christian denominations, including those of the Roman Catholic faith. We have lots of experience in arranging Catholic funerals and take great care to ensure that all customs, rites, and traditions are respectfully upheld.

We can assist with arranging a Funeral Mass or Requiem Mass, typically held at the family’s parish church, followed by either burial or cremation depending on your wishes.

If desired, families are welcome to spend time with their loved one in our chapel of rest for prayer and reflection.

We can also support arrangements for your loved one to be received into church the evening before the funeral, should that be part of your tradition.

On the day of the funeral, we will accompany your loved one to the church and on to the cemetery or crematorium, ensuring every aspect is carried out with care, dignity and reverence.

Our team will liaise with your parish priest to coordinate readings, music and any special requests. We are happy to wear traditional black or another colour if preferred, and can provide an exclusive fleet of Jaguar and Bentley vehicles for the funeral procession.

If required, we can also assist with Catholic readers or printed orders of service to help guide mourners through the Mass.

Non-religious Funerals

Many families today choose to hold non religious funerals that focus on celebrating a loved one’s life in a personal and meaningful way. We have extensive experience in supporting these services, and will work closely with you to ensure everything reflects the wishes of your family and the character of the person being remembered.

Non religious funerals can take place at a crematorium, cemetery, private venue or at home. They often include music, readings, poems, tributes and a moment of quiet reflection. These services are typically led by a civil celebrant, a humanist, or a family member or friend – someone who can help tell the story of your loved one’s life in a way that feels authentic and heartfelt.

We can also assist with other personal touches and would be really happy to help families remember their loved one in whichever way they wish – whatever feels right to you and your family, we will do our very best to make it happen.
On the day of the funeral, we will accompany your loved one with professionalism and care, ensuring everything runs smoothly.

There’s plenty of little touches that we can offer as well, for example – we have a wide selection of ties in various colours, allowing our team to wear something that reflects your loved one’s personality, favourite colour, or a chosen theme. Allowing 1-1.5 hours nearly every day from when they collected mum to the funeral day to allow us to visit mum in there quaint and peaceful chapel (of which the makeup on mum was stunning! Everyone commented similarly).5. We requested family members carry the coffin on the day itself.6. We requested an ‘upbeat’ tune on the car journey to the crematorium and shout out to Bailey for letting us sing mums favourite song ‘Build me up buttercup’.7. Collecting mums ashes in out of office hours.8. Arranging the witnessing of the charge after the service.Everyone on the day echoed what the family already knew- how fantastic the team and day was. We used W Uden & Sons for the funeral of our beloved Cotilda Cooper. On the day of her passing, many family members came to visit her at the Camberwell Lodge, her residence for the last few years. We stayed all afternoon and towards tea time, two members of the Uden funeral home came to take Mum there. However, one family member was on her way to see Mum. The Uden staff were lovely and said they would wait until we wanted Mum to be taken to the funeral home.When she did leave, the Camberwell Lodge staff formed a guard of honour for Mum's exit.The main staff member who looked after us at Uden's was Danny. From the outset, he was polite, pleasant and attentive. He explained in detail everything we would need to do.On the day of the funeral, Jack, the funeral conductor, was friendly, but professional and he put all of us at ease. The hearse was dressed with flowers and when we asked for her photo to be placed at the back of the hearse, they did this effortlessly.They directed the family's pallbearers at the church and Mum was transported to the front of the church in a dignified manner.After the burial, we, the close family, were dropped off at the venue for the funeral repast in the limousines.We would highly recommend the W Uden & Sons' team for their calm, pleasant, professional manner and their discretion and attention to detail at all times. We used Uden & Sons in May 2024 for our Mum’s unexpected death, when we first met Stan who walked us through the entire process with compassion and warmth. He also led our Mum’s funeral on the day and Sarah, their photographer, came to take photos so that our father, who was terminally ill and unable to be at the funeral, could be a part of it. When our father died just nine months later, there was no doubt in our minds that we would use Uden again and we did so this January 2025, requesting Stan and Sarah again, both of whom were there and made the loss so much more bearable. We had very recently, had occasion to use the services of W. Uden & Sons and cannot praise them highly enough for the caring and professional way that they conducted the funeral. We were given the choice of which crematorium we would prefer to use and they advised as to the type of service whether religious or not. The procedures were carried out with dignity and reverence but were not over heavy in a way that would have lessened the sense of its being a family occasion.Prior to the day of the funeral, the manner of everyone we had contact with at Udens was always respectful and charming without being obsequious. I understand that there are probably legal reasons but, with covid and the fact that most of the attendees were elderly and travelling from many different places, it was impossible to organize that the family carried the coffin. I think that Udens could investigate the possibility of 1 or 2 family members supplementing the professional pall bearers in a way that doesn’t affect the security of the coffin and the congregation when it’s being carried.
