From the moment we first contacted W. Uden & Sons, Sarah and the team demonstrated unparalleled professionalism and genuine compassion. They guided us through every step of the process with patience and understanding, ensuring that all our wishes were honoured. The attention to detail was remarkable, and their expertise in handling all the arrangements was a tremendous relief during a very emotional time. Sarah's personal touch and the team's unwavering support made a challenging experience more bearable than we could have imagined. I highly recommend W. Uden & Sons to anyone seeking funeral services that are not only professional but also deeply caring and personalised.
Wonderful send off for our lovely mum thanks to the staff at W Uden for you care and attention throughout a very difficult time
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to W. Uden & Sons Funeral Directors for their support and for arranging the funeral of my father. From the very beginning, Sarah and Denise were always at the end of the phone—answering questions, accommodating last-minute changes, and offering advice and reassurance during a time when we were at our most emotionally vulnerable.A special thank you to Lee, our funeral coordinator on the day, and his team. They showed incredible respect throughout, almost blending into the background but always there when needed—whether it was quietly placing or removing flowers and orders of service, or appearing with umbrellas when the heavens opened.Lee was exceptional. He called the day before to ensure everything was in order and to walk us through the events of the day. On the day itself, he coordinated everything with dignity and care, guiding both our family and guests with compassion. The Bentley cars were a pleasant surprise and a most welcome addition—my father would have been so proud of that.Would I recommend W. Uden & Sons? Absolutely. Their professionalism, warmth, and attention to detail made all the difference at such a difficult time.
I want to thank Sarah at Uden & Sons. She looked after us brilliantly. The way they handle everything for you is a great relief when you're grieving. Thank you for looking after my Dad 🙏
Ben, Jack, and the team were very professional throughout. I recieved numerous complements to that effect from family members. Much appreciated.
Although an extremely sad and painful time, Udens helped me navigate what needed to be done, with a balance of care, empathy, sympathy and dignity - never once overstepping this delicate balance. Thank you. I would recommend your service without reservation.
We have used this company twice in the last two years and have found them to be just about the most perfect people to deal with in difficult circumstances. They deeply care about the service they deliver and they take a huge amount of burden off your shoulders with their expertise and professionalism. They always go the extra mile and make all the little things happen too. We cannot praise them highly enough. They have been of extraordinary support and reassurance to our whole family. Thank you to all at W Uden from all of the Hodges family.
This was an obviously difficult time for my sister and I. It seemed that there was a whole other world to learn about and decisions to take. The team at Uden's made is simple, reduced any pressure and focused on what we wanted.
Our beloved mother passed away suddenly, we met with Sarah who looked after us all the way to the day of the burial, they fully understood our needs for a traditional Chinese ceremony. We are so thankful for their attention to detail and compassion. On the day of the burial we met with Darryl the funeral conductor who was amazing and so respectful. We couldn't be happier with the service, thank you to everyone at W.Uden & Sons who helped. Sincerely Voong Family
We was recommended to W Uden and Sons from a friend and when we arrived we was very welcomed and the workers were so so polite and explained everything to us. We was extremely happy with how things went. On our special day everything was beautiful, the service and the undertakers were so polite and caring and put a smile on everyone’s face. The amount of comments we had from friends and family for how beautiful it was all done. They also looked after my husband extremely well and everything that was asked of them for the care of my husband was done. On a sad day we all ended with smiles on our faces due to all the funeral team and the celebrant they recommended. Would definitely recommend using them and would like to say thank you to all the staff for their help and compassion.

Our Packages

Having to make funeral arrangements whilst in the turmoil of losing a loved one can be highly stressful. Using the knowledge gained from decades of caring for families, we have introduced a range of funeral packages to help reduce the burden of all the decision making.

The packages include just about everything that you need for the funeral to go ahead, are really helpful and will fit the needs of many families, but also remember that we can tailor each service to be as unique as the person that you are remembering.

If the death is expected and occurs at home:

  • Contact the deceased’s doctor and inform them of the death
  • Once the doctor has given permission to move the deceased, you may contact us and we will aim to be with you within 1-2 hours, to move the person who has died into our care
  • The doctor will issue the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death to the family representative for registration purposes

If the death occurs at a Nursing Home:

  • If a resident dies in a nursing home the GP (or qualified nurse on duty) can verify death
  • The GP will issue a medical certificate for the family to collect which will allow them to register
  • Most nursing homes will record the resident’s funeral wishes on their care plan. This will specify the chosen Funeral Director and whether the deceased wanted a cremation or a burial.
  • Once called, we will remove the deceased into our care

If the death occurs in Hospital:

  • If death occurs at the hospital, then the Doctors and Nurses will liaise with the hospital Bereavement Office, who will arrange all the appropriate paperwork on your behalf.

In cases of sudden and unexpected death:

  • If a death is unexpected then dial 999 and request an ambulance and police immediately, explaining the circumstances. In the event of an unexpected death occurring, then a coroner may become involved and may order a post-mortem to be carried out to establish an accurate cause of death. The coroner’s officer will keep you informed should this be the case and will liaise with us.

In cases where the Coroner is required to investigate the death, the deceased will be taken to a hospital or mortuary until a post-mortem examination is completed. If the death is expected, the funeral director will collect the deceased from the place of death and transport them to the appropriate chapel of rest, pending the arrangement of the funeral. Many large companies have central mortuaries or “hubs” where they store the deceased.

Here at W. Uden & Sons, each of our funeral homes are equipped with their own chapel of rest and have fully hygienic facilities for the care of your loved one. The only exception to this is our Dulwich branch, which shares these facilities with our branch at Camberwell.

Yes, once the deceased’s death has been certified, call your local branch and our experienced staff will guide you through the process of arranging the funeral. The only exception is when the Coroner has indicated that he intends to hold a full inquest into the circumstances surrounded the death.

  • Birth certificate & information regarding date of birth (if available) of the deceased
  • Some money to pay for copies of the death certificate required to administer the deceased’s estate.
